Pitching a Game

Our task for last week was to use the research we conducted to create a game that is related to or informative in some way about the topic. To address the worries I had in last week's dev log, in order to avoid the possibility of reiterating harmful monolithic stereotypes, I’ve decided to do what Disney and Pixar does and use animals or cars to commentate on real issues while being digestible for a wide age range. So when writing my research report, I already had somewhat of an idea of what I wanted the mechanics of my game to be. The difficult part was trying to figure out how to convey those ideas properly. I thought the simple description of the premise being an algorithm simulator was sufficient in giving a general idea, but I now learned that it is hard to picture what that entails especially without UI elements being designed yet.

Since my game idea is somewhat UI dependent, I should have focused more on coming up with a way to convey that design clearer in my pitch. I knew this going in but it was especially hard to imagine what we could do with it when we haven’t decided what our technical limits are in terms of scripting. However, I’m glad my pitch or idea was convincing enough for my group to have landed on it as our base game ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ and I’m excited that I get to work on it more and see it come to fruition at some point! Yay! ALSO! I was surprised to see how many of us also researched fake news and misinformation on social media 😤 Make me feel unoriginal or whatever I guess.

I'm glad to hear that your idea worked out in the end. Your idea sounds great. I agree that addressing real issues is a great way to approach a creative scenario. Using UI elements is interesting for your game to address these situations. You describe what this game is going to be based off of and I am more curious to know about how the gameplay will look like. What problems will the player solve by using these UI elements?

Sounds like a really great concept for your team's game! I have also noticed that a lot of people did fake news, and social media. 4 people (including me) on my team did that topic, and we all had similar ideas between us.

It's great to see your determination and adaptability in response to the challenges you've encountered in developing your game. Your decision to use animals or cars to address real issues in a digestible way is a creative approach.

I like that you plan on making your game a commentary on society, it can definitely make a game more impactful and have a lasting effect, especially when you make the first impression cute and friendly.

I am happy to see that you found a solution to the challenges you encountered in last week's devlog. Your innovative approach of using animals or vehicles to comment on real-world issues is quite impressive. This idea sounds very fresh. And your focus on UI elements is intriguing. It seems to be aiming for a rare type of game interaction, but it is also something special. I am looking forward to witnessing the game's progress and eventual realization, and also the UI art performance!

Hi! I find your approach to the game's presentation really intriguing. I agree with you that an abstract visual representation can easily resonate with a broader audience. I'm curious about your game mechanics – how will it play out in actual gameplay? Looking forward to seeing your finished game!
